Melben’s history dates back to 1979. Then, young Melvin helped his father at a seafood stall in Commonwealth Ave, where he learned the tools of the trade. Picking up both cooking and dish creation would prove useful as he moved towards a partnership six years later. Melven teamed up with Benson and together, they founded Mellben Seafood Catering. This venture allowed both founders to hone their culinary skills.



In 1989, the first Melben Seafood restaurant opened in Block 440, Pasir Rise Drive 4, with their signature offerings Chilli Crab and Crab Bee Hoon Soup. These dishes were very well-received; diners came from far beyond the boundaries of Pasir Ris. In the ensuing years, Mellben Seafood restaurant expanded furiously. Buoyed by the success of their flagship Pasir Ris outlet, the eatery opened in various locations to bring the legendary Melben-style crabs to the population. New flavours were introduced and today, diners swear by Mellben’s Laksa Crab, Butter Crab and Black Pepper Crab.


Mellben Seafood has come a long way, having been featured in various media and enjoyed great success. Nevertheless, it remains true to its roots as a humble, neighbourhood seafood eatery with delectable dishes enjoyed by the masses.
